The Associate Director, Privacy and Regulatory Affairs is part of the University of Miami Health System Privacy & Data Security team, under the direction of the Director, HIPAA & Security, and promotes healthcare compliance within UHealth and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. The incumbent will focus on privacy and data security investigations. This position will be responsible for interacting with government audits and investigations.

Department Specific Functions

Review, document and facilitate the resolution of incidents related to inappropriate disclosures. Oversee and ensure the right of the practice/organization’s patients to inspect, amend and restrict access to protected health information, when appropriate. Review and assist with institutional breach response including review of notification materials, affected population lists, call center and escalation calls, liaise with credit monitoring and call center vendors, business services and others. Work cooperatively with the Health Information Management and other applicable organizational medical record units in overseeing compliance with patient rights. Receives, documents, tracks, and investigates on complaints concerning the organization’s privacy practices. Reviews and revises HIPAA privacy policies as needed. Provides support and assistance to workforce members involved with any aspects of release of protected health information. Liaise with key stakeholder areas regarding Privacy matters including General Counsel, Risk Management, etc. Establish and cultivate an Information Privacy environment and culture that foster best practices for data protection. Acts as Privacy liaison between department and business units to recommend solutions for compliance with HIPAA rules and other privacy laws/regulations. Manage patient rights correspondence and assist the Director in HIPAA compliance oversight. Manage the walkthrough process. Provide onsite training to areas requiring remediation or refreshers on an as needed basis. Creates training materials and presentation to educate workforce members on HIPAA policies, information security, and privacy practices. Manage the amendment request process.

Provide support to clients including employees, patients, and other third parties regarding: HIPAA policies & procedures, Facilitation of Patient Rights under HIPAA, Release of Information requests.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required.

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
