About the Role
We are looking for a Data Protection Officer to help us improve our management of information, carry out regular internal security audits, and act as the main point of contact between BJSS and the data protection authorities. You will need to have excellent organisational, communication and leadership skills. You’ll often be working independently in this role, but will need to liaise closely with all relevant employees as you promote a culture of data protection compliance within the organisation.
Objectives of this role include:
Act as the primary point of contact within the organisation for members of staff, regulators, and any relevant public bodies on issues related to data protection
Ensure the company’s policy is in accordance with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and codes of practice
Evaluate the existing data protection framework and identify areas of non or partial compliance and rectify any issues
Conduct and review regular Privacy Impact Assessments – both internal and customer facing
Devise training plans and provide data protection advice and support for members of staff
Inform and advise the Data Controller or Data Processor on all matters related to data protection
Promote a culture of data protection compliance across all areas of the business
Draft new and amend existing internal data protection policies, training, and procedures, in consultation with key stakeholders
Proactively conduct audits to ensure compliance and address potential issues
Maintain records of all data processing activities carried out by the company
Serve as the point of contact between the company and the data protection authorities
About You
Ideally, you will have experience gained from a professional services organisation or an understanding of these types of organisations. You will be an excellent communicator and genuine people person who will work with our teams to gain their trust and to implement improvements.
You will have a solid track record of working in data protection compliance or a related field. Most importantly, you will have a passion to drive improvements in how we store, record and process the data about our employees, clients and our business.
Any knowledge/experience of the following areas will also be an advantage:
Knowledge of different international data regulatory regimes
PII in the cloud (ISO27018)
Knowledge of Privacy Information Systems (PIM) and ISO27701
An understanding of technology controls used to protect sensitive PII – in transit and at rest
Ability to do effective project management
Ability to manage multiple workloads
