Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Sr. Compliance Analyst in our Privacy Office !

About the role

Symetra is seeking a Senior Privacy Lead to join our Privacy Office within the Corporate Compliance team. The position will help manage privacy program initiatives and responsibilities across the company, including establishing, enhancing and maintaining our controls and reporting mechanisms. Strong technical knowledge of privacy compliance matters as it relates to a life insurance company will be important to undertake day-to-day activities and responsibilities.

Primary Responsibilities:

Interpret privacy compliance requirements, legal regulations and industry best practices as well as identify relevant impact to business stakeholders, priorities, and technology initiatives
Stay informed of and help implement changes to the privacy program required by developments in US and international laws and regulations
Support and collaborate on cross-functional privacy initiatives
Lead privacy incident investigations and determine if they meet any 50 state or federal breach notification thresholds
Partner with various business owners to conduct Privacy Impact Assessments and ensure all products, tools, offerings, and practices comply with data privacy and compliance requirements
Build out and enhance existing metrics and reporting tools
Assist in the preparation and presentation of reports to business leaders
Facilitate related privacy and HIPAA training and content delivery as well as influence stakeholders in strengthening desktop procedures
Facilitate requirements gathering and drive creation of integrated project plans and timelines
Lead the maintenance and update of privacy-related policies and procedures
You will report to the Compliance Privacy Manager who champions the program’s efforts for privacy compliance.

Compensation

Salary Range: $73,200 – $122,000 plus eligibility for annual bonus program

Requirements

Your education, experience and skills 4+ years of experience in Privacy as a Senior Analyst, Analyst, or in a similar role with directly related compliance experience
4+ years of experience performing Data Privacy Impact and Risk Assessments or similar business practices
Experience with and knowledge of laws and privacy regulatory frameworks such as: US state Data Breach Notification, CCPA/CPRA, Data Protection, and Comprehensive Privacy Laws, and sector-specific laws, GLBA, HIPAA, CCPA, GDPR, etc.
Excellent communication and analytical skills that demonstrate the ability to distill complex challenges into actionable solutions
Project Management experience preferred
Demonstrated ability to perform and document detailed privacy research and synthesize advice into concise summaries
Demonstrated ability to identify relevant facts (and separate irrelevant facts) and apply a governing legal framework, policy or law
Demonstrate knowledge of privacy requirements and best practices, and understand how they apply to business practices and projects
Understanding of internal and external data flows and their impact to privacy
High level of personal integrity, confidentiality and trustworthiness
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Teams
