Gusto customers trust us with highly-sensitive, personally identifiable information (PII), protected health information (PHI) and personal data (PD) when they sign up for or use our services. As a result, safeguarding our customers’ data privacy is a top consideration in everything we do here at Gusto. We are now looking to hire a Privacy Program Manager to join our Product and Commercial, Legal team to build, scale, and mature Gusto’s privacy program.

What it is like to Work with Gusto

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Work closely with the Privacy Program Director to advance the privacy strategy and execute the privacy program roadmap.
  • Monitor and evaluate evolving laws, rules, regulations and guidelines to help implement and maintain compliance with privacy laws such as CCPA/CPRA, GLBA, PIPEDA, HIPAA and GDPR.
  • Partner closely with our Security, IT, Data Platform, Trust & Safety, Product, and Engineering teams to mature our programs related to data governance, data protection, and privacy by design. 
  • Assist in supporting commercial transactions involving data protection terms, including reviewing vendor DPAs and conducting Privacy Impact and Data Transfer Impact Assessments.
  • Help define, update, maintain and enhance privacy training, templates and data governance processes.
  • Partner closely with our Security, IT, Data Platform, Trust & Safety, Product, and Engineering teams to mature our programs related to data governance, data protection, and privacy by design. 
  • Help operationalize Gusto’s growing IP program (handling copyright requests, maintaining trademark registrations, and assisting in the building of our patent portfolio).

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • 3-5+ years of relevant privacy experience in the technology sector. 
  • Working knowledge of and deep passion for state, federal and international privacy laws. 
  • Have or are interested in obtaining a privacy certification (e.g., CIPM, CIPP/US, CIPP/E).
  • Knowledge of or interest in leveraging your skillset to scale Gusto’s IP program.
  • Creativity in solving problems and dealing with ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience developing or scaling privacy programs in collaboration and partnership with engineering, product development, security and IT teams. 
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills with a passion for educating others and shifting mindsets towards a Privacy First and Privacy by Design culture.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to follow through in a fast-paced cross-functional environment.
  • Familiarity with privacy management software (Bonus if that is OneTrust or TrustArc).

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $89,000 – $110,000 in Denver & most remote locations, and $108,000 – $133,000 for San Francisco & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
