Director, Global Privacy Office

Our client, a prestigious investment banking firm, is seeking a privacy leader to join their Global Privacy Office (GPO) team in either Pittsburgh, PA or New York, NY. The Director, Global Privacy Office will support all lines of business and corporate functions in understanding and managing privacy risk. Developing and maintaining the enterprise privacy strategy, framework, policies, and procedures and running enterprise-wide privacy processes and regulatory change implementation will be this hire’s primary objectives. This is a position for a skilled leader – one who can both strategize, build, and grow a privacy program and mentor their team through collaborative coaching. The Director will support the Americas and should have a deep understanding of local regulations (CCPA, CPRA, PIPEDA), as well as familiarity with international laws (GDPR, PIPL).

The role forms part of the Global Privacy Office (GPO), led by the Chief Privacy Officer, which is positioned within the Legal department. The GPO is the first line of defense function that supports all lines of business and corporate functions in understanding and managing the privacy risks inherent in their business/function. The GPO develops and maintains the enterprise privacy strategy, framework, policies, and procedures, runs enterprise-wide privacy processes, and drives privacy regulatory change implementation.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Contribute to the definition and ongoing enhancement of the enterprise privacy strategy, framework, and operating model
  • Support the Chief Privacy Officer to operationalize the privacy strategy and management framework across the Americas region
  • Lead the Americas Global Privacy Office subject matter expert (SME) team, members
  • Provide SMEs support to Lines of Business and Corporate Functions to help them fulfill their regulatory and organizational requirements to protect the privacy of both client and employee personal information while enabling business and technology innovation
  • Design, develop, enhance, and operationalize enterprise-level privacy policies/procedures, processes, and controls
  • Work with Global Privacy Office colleagues and other key stakeholders to drive and successfully implement privacy regulatory compliance initiatives across the enterprise
  • Provide SME support to enable the successful delivery of enterprise-wide change initiatives and business-specific initiatives
  • Drive and support privacy risk assessments/privacy impact assessments and Privacy by Design (PbD)
  • Support the deployment of tools to enhance data privacy controls
  • Develop and deliver privacy education and awareness materials to internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure that potential/actual personal information incidents are investigated, and remediation is carried out as required
  • Engage Legal, Risk and Compliance, and Line of Business/Corporate Function teams as required to manage risks and decisions and reach mutually acceptable outcomes
  • Have an appreciation of international data protection laws and regulations to contribute to the team’s global projects as they arise, ensuring consistency and efficiency when rolling out global processes and policies
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or advanced degree (JD or MBA) or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPP/A, CIPT, and/or ISEB qualifications
  • Understanding of international privacy requirements in the EMEA and APAC region
  • Vast experience in a senior privacy role within multinational corporations, (e.g., financial services, technology, a consultancy); several years of total work experience in a related role
  • Deep and technical knowledge of America’s Privacy laws and regulations, particularly in the U.S. (e.g., HIPAA, GLBA, CCPA, CPRA), Canada (PEPDA), Brazil (LGPD), and Cayman
  • Strong verbal and written presentation skills, including the ability to engage effectively with executive leadership
  • Excellent change management skills with the ability to develop strategy, evaluate efficacy, influence stakeholders, drive implementation, and measure success
  • Self-starter, self-reliant, execution and results-oriented
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines whilst delivering excellent results
  • Team player with an open and collaborative approach to delivering required outcome
  • Proven track record in developing/maintaining a high-performing, geographically diverse team, (e.g., through on-the-job coaching and effective delegation)
